Fabulous magazine - Mel-Sykes

Fabulous mag features Lucia Nova and says “ a house-turned-chic-self-catering-holiday-home, sleeping four, in the pretty old town in Valletta (where the best shops and cafes are). A true hidden gem – think distressed walls teamed with stunning interior design, topped by a roof terrace”. Read the full article about Malta here.

What: A gem of a city built to protect the island from invading Ottoman Turks in 1565. Valletta is a baroque architectural feat which still preserves to this day some of the most amazing buildings on the island of Malta.

Where: Built on a peninsula, Valletta is flanked on each side by spectacular harbours and inlets;
clinging to a hill slope with panoramic views of towns and villages across the harbours. There are secret passageways hewn in the rocks dating back to the knights of Malta which lead to bathing platforms and of course the mediterranean blue sea.

Why: Staying in Valletta offers a rare opportunity to experience this exquisite location in an all-encompassing environment (history, art, culinary delights and for the sun worshipers a place where to go for a dip at the end of the day). And while there are many hotels on the island which boast sandy beaches and touristy resorts, Valletta remains something of a secret amongst architecture and culture aficionados, attracted by the coveted combination of style and substance: seawater swimming pool and an oh-so-Maltese rocky beach area with some charming seaside open-air bars and restaurants. Day trips can be taken to Comino island and Gozo just across from Sliema Ferries. In short: Valletta still remains one of the few places not affected by mass tourism and the best place to spend your holidays.

Saint Dominic’s Feast is on till the end of the week, with a grand final on Sunday. Live band plays in front of the statue, followed by devotees; while loud local disco music plays in bars. An excuse to drink and celebrate in the narrow streets of Valletta. True contrasts worth experiencing hands on!

Saint Dominic’s church is located in the lower part of Merchants Street in Valletta, minutes away from Valletta Nobile.

Valletta Church Bells

Valletta Bells 01 by vallettasuites

There are many churches in Valletta, yet not all function today – however the main churches have their own bells, including St. John’s Co Cathedral. Many of the church bells in Valletta are authentic mechanical bells and are still knocked manually with the use of ropes.

Enjoy our spontaneous recording of these church bells ringing and ringing on an extraordinary occasion.

It is rarely possible to walk into a space and feel enchanted by the surroundings… Palazzo Parisio is such a place. It has the air of mystery that few places in Malta are able to boast about.

As you climb up the grand staircase and enter the hall of mirrors you can easily be transported to the reign of Louis XIV and Marie Antoniette. The guide will inform you about the  extraordinary gilded plasterworks depicting the symbols of art, astronomy, literature,music, religion, the sea, theatre and the arts of war. But apart from these ‘distractions’ you might occasionally stumble upon a surreal scene that will surprise you. It is as if by making the wrong turn in this huge palace, you capture an image of the paintings of the beautiful ballerinas by Degas or even more enchanting a scene from the Black Swan starring Natalie Portman. However it is all very real, and you might be lucky enough to have a peep behind the scene of some extraordinary film being shot on location at thisPalazzo in Malta. If that fails the palace guardians will bring this enchanted Palace to life with detailed insight into the wonderful world of the Marquis Giuseppe Scicluna who built the Palace in the 1800s.
The tea rooms will delight you with a splendid selection of teas and home-made cakes. A truly enchanting experience, that you will remember for a long time.
