The Malta Biennale 2026 is the second edition of Malta’s contemporary art biennial, running from 11 March to 29 May under the theme CLEAN | CLEAR | CUT across 11 historic museums and heritage sites in Valletta, Vittoriosa, Xagħra and the Citadel in Gozo. Curated by internationally renowned artistic director Rosa Martínez, it brings together more than 130 artists from over 40 countries in an ambitious programme of 27–29 national and thematic pavilions that transform Baroque palaces, Knights-era fortresses and UNESCO-recognised sites into a “living gallery” of installations, performance, sculpture and multimedia work. With venues including MUŻA, Fort St Elmo, the National Museum of Archaeology, Fort St Angelo, the Old Armoury and Ġgantija, the biennale stages a dialogue between Malta’s stratified history and global contemporary practice, positioning the islands as a rising node on the international art map under the patronage of UNESCO and the President of Malta.
